From Chaos to Clarity: How Bullet Journaling Can Benefit You
Benefits of Bullet Journaling
Who would have though that a notebook and a pen could be life changing?
Maybe you've already experienced how helpful having a bullet journal can be, or maybe you’re still contemplating picking up a pen and getting started. Either way, having a bullet journal as part of your routine is a surefire way to making you appreciate life more and understanding yourself differently.
I see journaling as the version of self-care that isn’t sweet treats and bubble baths, but the version of self-care that’s doing laundry and helping out future-you.
In this article, we’ll get into a few ways that having a journal can be beneficial to you and your life.

How Journaling Helps
It doesn’t matter if you’re a student, a mom, a corporate person, or somewhere completely different because journaling is a practice that can help you in so many ways.
Goal Tracking
Setting goals is pretty easy, but achieving them? That’s a whole different story. In order to achieve a goal, we can’t pretend that it’ll just happen (I’m guilty of doing this). We have to make a plan.
Creating a plan in your journal allows you to make the possibility a reality because it won’t just live in your head. There’s physical evidence that you’re starting a goal. Further, writing down a goal lets us figure out the path to making that goal happen and lets us create a check-in system.

Productivity
One of the main ways to use a bullet journal according to the official Bullet Journal Method is to write down all your tasks, events, and notes in one place to help you keep track of it all.
More modern usage of bullet journals often include a habit tracker where you can track how much or how little you’re accomplishing for a specific repeatable task or habit. These habit trackers really let you see patterns and correct where you start to drop off easily.
Mindfulness
Going off the previous point on habit tracking, a bullet journal allows for reflection naturally at the end of the week and month. With a bullet journal, you can see the progress you’ve made with your tasks, habits, and goals and you can pivot for the next week if necessary.
Not only that, but you can also incorporate areas to write down gratitude or positive elements for your day. Personally, I write down a highlight of the day so even on my worst days I know that there is something good.

Creativity
A bullet journal is such a flexible method of organization and mindfulness that you can easily incorporate decoration into it. By including elements of color and art, you’re letting your creative self shine.
As someone who didn’t consider herself an artist or even a creative until I started bullet journaling, having and decorating a bullet journal has opened up opportunity for creative growth that I wouldn’t have experienced otherwise.
The best part about this process happening in a bullet journal is that if you really don’t like what you create, you only have to deal with it for a week before you can start fresh again.

Communication
By writing down our tasks and notes, we have to find a way to communicate them effectively to our future selves. We’re able to practice writing clearly, both in understanding what was meant and also in legibility.
Writing in your journal helps you figure out how to express yourself and will in turn help you express yourself better to other people.

Stress Reduction
When you start to see patterns in your trackers, you can see those patterns in real life and start changing them if that's what you're after. If your habit tracker is telling you that laundry on Mondays simply don’t happen, you can change and put that task in a timeslot that works better.
As your tasks get done instead of forgotten and as your creative muscle gets stretched, stress levels can go down. Feeling more in control of stuff instead of scattered is really helpful in keeping stress managed.

You Get What You Give
Like with any self-care method, you only get as much as you put in. To see the real benefits of journaling, staying consistent is key. But if you do keep up with it, you’ll start to see benefits like better communication, being more mindful, and even seeing your stress start to lower.
