5 Fun and Creative Uses for Colorable Stickers

Have you heard about stickers you can color in yourself? Inspired by doodled mood logs in the bullet journal community, it’s a concept I’ve embraced with lots of enthusiasm. You may see them called as colorable stickers, DIY (do it yourself) color stickers, coloring stickers, or coloring book stickers, but it’s all the same in this context.

Coloring stickers may sound cool in concept, but how can DIY color stickers be used? Let’s answer that question together and dive right in!

Fun and Creative Ways To Use DIY Color Stickers

Mood Log/Tracker

I do have to start with the obvious here! Colorable stickers are absolutely perfect when used as a mood log. It lets you have an adorable doodled mood tracker without putting the time it takes to draw everything out.

For some of us (I’m definitely calling myself out here!), it also eliminates the need to draw things out perfectly. I’m a better digital artist than a traditional one, but I keep my bullet journal analog, so having DIY color stickers are the best option for me!

By picking a few colors to use at the beginning of the month for different moods, I end up with a comprehensive and colorful mood tracker when the month is over.

The right page is labeled habits with 4 mini blank calendars below and next to it is labeled Highlights with 30 blank lines in alternating colors.

Focused Habit or Activity Tracker

Habit trackers can take on so many forms, including using mini calendars, a table for multiple habits, or circle trackers for specific habits. But have you thought about zeroing in a specific habit? And if you’re focusing on a particular habit, how can you make it stand out from the rest of your habits?

One solution for this is to use colorable stickers! This makes your focus habit stand out from mini calendars or other trackers.

You can use it as a simple yes/no tracker by assigning the stickers to specific days and coloring it in if you did the habit. If you didn’t do the habit, you can leave the sticker not colored or pick a different color altogether.

Another way to use this as a focused habit tracker is to select a scale, similar to the mood tracker, to correspond with how much of the habit or activity you did. This would work wonderfully for a step tracker or a reading tracker! The possibilities are endless!

Mini Coloring Session

There have been several studies which suggest that coloring can bring stress relief and relaxation. I am very aware that people can be so busy that sometimes it can be difficult to find some time to be mindful and relax.

Using DIY color stickers is a quick and easy way to slow down the pace and concentrate on coloring. Because colorable stickers are small, they are perfect to spend just a few minutes relaxing. And no one said you can’t do more than one at a time if you feel like it!

Colorable stickers are the perfect opportunity to wind down and be mindful.

Match Your Color Palette

For those of you who like theming their bullet journal spreads either for a particular page or for an entire month, once you have an idea of what you want to do, it can be tough to execute!

By picking out some DIY color stickers, you can match your themes so perfectly because you’d be using literally the same colors as the rest of your spreads. It can be frustrating to find stickers that you like the design of, but the colors are off.

When you’re on the look out for pink swords, isn’t it frustrating to only find gray ones?? Colorable stickers allow you to completely eliminate that feeling and have all the pink swords that you want. Or any other available design.

Leave Them Black and White

Instead of wanting a colorful spread, sometimes a minimalistic black and white theme is what we want. Finding cute themed stickers that are not in color is more difficult than you think, but if you’re looking specifically for colorable stickers, those automatically come in black and white!

Using DIY color stickers as-is is the simplest way to use these stickers. And if you end up with any extras after using however many you want, you can always go back to one of the other ways above to use them.

Best Coloring Supplies

Coloring stickers are usually pretty small, so the best supplies to use when coloring these stickers are color pencils, water-based markers, or highlighters with a fine point. The ones in my shop in particular are made of paper, so something like alcohol-based markers, might be a bit of an overkill.

My favorite coloring supplies come from the classic Crayola brand. Their color pencils, available in a 36-pack or 120-pack (affiliate links) and SuperTip Markers have never let me down! SuperTips come in a 20-pack, 50-pack, 100-pack and even a pastel pack (all affiliate links)!

If you’re looking for highlighters, Zebra Mildliners (affiliate link) do a great job since the Zebra Mildliners are dual-tipped with a fine point on one end and chisel-tipped on the other. Another great highlighter option are the Sharpie S-Note Highlighters (affiliate link) which are chisel tipped, but can be used as a fine point when using just the tip of the highlighter.

There are also other DIY color stickers made of vinyl so a permanent marker, like these fine-tip Sharpies (affiliate link), would be your best bet.

Of course, the best coloring supplies are the ones you already have, so make sure to look around at what you already have at home before buying something new!

Where Can You Find Colorable Stickers?

There are several places where you can find these kinds of stickers. I’ve found some at my local dollar store and I’ve seen them on Etsy as well. But I am biased when I say that my DIY color stickers are the best!

There are currently over 30 designs up at my shop with more on the way! Each themed design comes in a sticker sheet with at least 31 stickers, which is perfect if you’re planning on using them for monthly tracking. And every themed colorable sticker sheet has 6-8 different designs on each sheet, so you’re not coloring the same thing everyday.

Willing to Give Them a Try?

Hopefully I’ve convinced you to give colorable stickers a chance! They’re the perfect little stickers to add some color and personality to your journal or planner. Whether you’re using them to track your mood or habit or using them as some stress relief, DIY color stickers are a sure way to make journaling just a little more exciting.
